Dr. Thuong Tran Obituary – The University of Southern California and the broader medical community are mourning the passing of Dr. Thuong Tran, DNAP, CRNA, whose death has been met with deep sadness and respect.
Dr. Tran was a 2025 graduate of the Keck School of Medicine of USC Nurse Anesthesia Program, where he quickly earned recognition for his academic strength and clinical skill. He was the recipient of the USC Agatha Hodgins Award for Clinical Achievement and a Scholarship Award Recipient, distinctions that reflected both his dedication to excellence and his commitment to patient-centered care.
Prior to his doctoral training, Dr. Tran served as an ICU registered nurse. In 2021, while still in critical care, he attended a Diversity CRNA Event as a prospective applicant — an experience that would later shape his professional mission.
In the years that followed, he became a strong advocate for mentorship and inclusion in healthcare. Dr. Tran consistently gave his personal time to guide and support those entering the nurse anesthesia pipeline. Most recently, in April 2025, he mentored students at the Diversity CRNA Event at the Kaiser Permanente School of Anesthesia, continuing his efforts to uplift future clinicians.
Colleagues remember him as driven, compassionate, and deeply committed to both his patients and his profession. His influence extended beyond the operating room, touching the lives of students, peers, and aspiring CRNAs alike.
The Trojan community extends its sincere condolences to the Tran family and to all who were privileged to know and work with Dr. Thuong Tran. His legacy of excellence, service, and mentorship will endure.
